About MugUp

We're on a mission to make growing — in knowledge, in habits, in consistency — feel less like a chore and more like a game.

Our Story

MugUp started in 2025 out of a simple frustration: rereading notes and highlighting textbooks feels productive, but very little of it sticks. What actually works — testing yourself, recalling answers, repeating what you got wrong — is tedious to set up by hand.

So we built a tool that does the tedious part for you. Describe a topic, and MugUp's AI turns it into interactive games: multiple choice quizzes, fill-in-the-blank exercises, flashcards, and matching pairs. You spend your time actually learning, not building study materials.

Then we noticed the thing that actually decided whether the studying worked: showing up again the next day. So MugUp grew around that. Today it's a daily practice, not just a game generator — timed reading and writing sessions, impromptu speaking drills, a focus timer with intentional breaks, one-tap logs for exercise and reflection — with streaks, XP, and collectible companions holding it together, and a Life Card that rates six areas of your real life on how consistently you show up.

The Life Card isn't an accident. Most of us have lost an evening to grinding a GTA character's stats or nudging a FIFA rating up two points, and enjoyed every minute — the loop works. It's just pointed at a character who stops existing when you close the game. MugUp borrows the same loop and aims it at the one you keep: instead of hours spent growing an avatar, grow yourself.

That cuts both ways, and we would rather say so than be caught at it. The streak, the levels, the rare companion in the pack, the rating that sags when you disappear — those are the same techniques as the apps competing for your evening, and we picked them because they work. What differs is what they point at, and what we refused to bring along with them: no feed, no ads, nothing to buy your way past, and a rating honest enough to fall when you stop showing up. If something is going to be built to get you back tomorrow, it may as well be the thing that leaves you better than it found you.

The other half is older than any of that. You remember what you retrieve, not what you reread, and you keep what comes back just as it starts to fade — so the games make you produce the answer, a session mixes formats instead of drilling one, whatever you got wrong comes back first, and the schedule decides when. None of it asks anything of you except that you turn up.

And studying doesn't happen in a silo. What you did in the hour before decides how the hour goes — nobody comes off a run of short videos and settles into a page of notes — and what you do when the session stops landing decides whether the evening survives it. So MugUp is built around the studying rather than only for it: a timer whose breaks you name before they start, a ceiling on how much new material a day is allowed to introduce, rewards that stop after the first session so there is nothing to stay up farming, and, when the drills go flat, a row of other things worth doing instead of the thing you'd otherwise reach for. Bored of one is not the same as done for the night.

MugUp is a small, independent product — built and run by a developer who uses it to study too. That means no ads, no selling your data, and a roadmap driven directly by what users ask for.

What We Believe

Active Beats Passive

Answering questions beats rereading notes. Every feature we build is designed to make you retrieve, not just review.

Consistency Beats Intensity

Streaks, XP, and companions aren't gimmicks — they're what gets you back tomorrow, and a few small reps a day beats a heroic weekend every time.

Start in Seconds

You shouldn't need an hour of setup to study for an hour. Type a topic, get a game, start playing.

Honesty

We'd rather ship a small product that works than promise features that don't exist yet. What you see on the pricing page is what you get.

Who It's For

Students cramming for exams and anyone who has ever fallen asleep rereading the same page. Professionals studying for certifications — AWS, Security+, CFA, USMLE — on fifteen minutes a day instead of lost weekends. And people who aren't studying for anything in particular but want to read more, write daily, and spend their screen time becoming someone: if you have something to memorize or a habit to keep, MugUp turns it into a game you'll actually come back to.

Try It Yourself

The free plan lets you create games every day, no credit card required.
